~fly away home~

~fly away home~

~there are trees on fire~
~in the dying forest~
~flames become~
~their fate~
~ashes & tomb~
~birds’ wings ablaze~
~in the smoking tower~

~a sparrow sings her death song~
~as she frets about her nest~
~pushes them out~
~one by one~
~those born to her~
~until they are devoured with the rest~

~man beasts~
~pour water from the sky~
~they tell~
~terrible stories~
~of the inferno & why~
~the sky fell~

~the tiniest tears~
~someone ought to know~
~how brave she was~
~the courage of the sparrow~
